Physiotherapy vs Chiropractic

I offer physiotherapy as a stand-alone modality, and chiropractic in combination with physiotherapy. If you would like to discuss whether physiotherapy or a combined approach would benefit your animal most, I am always happy to discuss.

Physiotherapy focuses more on the muscles of the body, assessing for any weakness, asymmetry, spasms or compensations. Physiotherapy also assesses the range of movement of the joints within the body. Within this, I am able to treat with electrotherapies, use manual therapy and joint mobilisation, and prescribe exercises or give a rehabilitation programme.

McTimoney Chiropractic is a gentle, holistic method of adjusting misalignments within the skeleton. Misalignments describe a reduced range of movement, and are adjusted with gentle techniques to restore range of movement and improve comfort and mobility. This modality is very well accepted by animals and does not consist of 'cracking', just gentle treatment techniques centred around the spine.

Both of these modalities work really well together, and leading with physiotherapy allows any compensations or tight muscles to be treated to avoid creating misalignments, but I will always assess your animal and if I feel that they do not require chiropractic, we will not do it.

Why Westrise?

Saskia and Pablo

Emily has been incredible with my gelding - from his behavioural challenges, diagnosis, treatment, through rehab and beyond, she has guided and supported us both, helping him become more sound than I ever thought he could be. Emily has such an eye for detail, unlike any that I have found in previous physios/bodywork equine practitioners before. I can’t recommend her highly enough- she’s become a crucial part of my horses’ care.
